Apple 85W MagSafe 2 Power Adapter (20V 4.25A, T-tip / MagSafe 2) is the official (and common third-party replacement) charger primarily for 15-inch MacBook Pro Retina models from mid-2012 to mid-2015. The “(T)” refers to the MagSafe 2 connector style (flat/straight T-shaped magnetic tip), which replaced the earlier L-shaped MagSafe 1.
This is a compact, white (or sometimes black third-party) cube-style AC power adapter with an integrated MagSafe 2 magnetic connector. It delivers stable 85 W power for demanding 15-inch Retina MacBook Pros while also being usable (at reduced speed) on lower-wattage MagSafe 2 MacBooks (45 W / 60 W models). The magnetic tip auto-aligns and safely disconnects if the cable is pulled, protecting the laptop. An LED on the connector shows status: amber = charging, green = fully charged.
Original Apple units (and good replacements) include over-voltage, over-current, short-circuit, and thermal protection, plus energy-efficiency certifications (e.g., Level VI).
